The Datchworth Climate Change Group is an organisation that is dedicated to the three tasks of Informing, Encouraging and Supporting people in connection with Climate Change and what we can do to mitigate its causes and effects.

Top candidate currently for our mission statement is as follows:

Global warming is already causing major changes to our environment which will significantly change the way we all live in the future. This group explores ways that individuals can reduce their carbon footprints and adapt their lifestyles in order to secure a sustainable future for their families and our community.

Some other suggested mission statements (we are currently debating the exact text to adopt):

• Inform people about the realities of climate change, encourage them to take action to reduce human contribution to it, and support them in the steps they take.

• Raise awareness of the situation and dangers. Give accurate information and use the right language - no scientific jargon. Provide encouragement for action which is within reach of everybody. Discuss the moral & philosophical aspects of community.

Catalyst for action through mutual cooperation.
Information resource through ourselves, our website and public speaker evenings.
Focal point for local/village orientated initiatives and to maintain momentum.
Measurement of local achievements and/or lack of publicise such matters.
Set an example for adjoining communities and hopefully kick start similar groups.
Maintain high local profile of Climate Change issues and awareness of personal/community carbon footprints.
